Florida PEP families: your annual assessment doesn't have to be stressful. Here's everything you need β the requirement explained, the best tests, and daily prep that works.
Start free prep βIf your child received PEP funding last year and you're renewing, Florida law requires them to take a nationally norm-referenced test (or a Florida statewide assessment) during the school year. Then you upload the results to your EMA account.
The good news: there's no minimum score. Your child just needs to take the test. It's a checkbox, not a gate.
First-year PEP families: you don't need to test before applying. The requirement kicks in after your first funded year.
These are the most popular FLDOE-approved options among Florida homeschool families:
Adaptive, online, ~20 minutes per subject. The easiest path β Step Up even made a how-to video for it. Reading, Math, and Early Literacy.
Adaptive and widely respected. Shows precise growth over time. A bit longer than Star but very thorough.
The traditional paper-and-pencil option. Covers reading, language, math, science, and social studies. Order through Seton Testing.
Well-known and rigorous. The online version can be administered at home β no degree requirement for the parent.
Can be administered by parents, timed, available online. A longtime homeschool favorite for simplicity.
Take the actual state test at your district's testing site in May. Free, but you must register with the district by early March.
Always confirm your chosen test is on the current FLDOE approved list before ordering β lists can change year to year.
The approved tests measure reading and math skills. Our adaptive drills build exactly those skills β 5 minutes a day, all year. When test day comes, your child has already done thousands of practice questions.
Our adaptive placement test pinpoints exactly where your child stands in minutes. Run it in fall to find gaps, drill those areas, then run it again in spring (premium) to confirm growth before the real test.
Every drill session is logged with date, subject, level, and score. Download it all as a CSV for your homeschool records β the kind of paper trail that makes PEP compliance painless.
